Magazine Calendar Listings

Natural Awakenings offers two different calendars – our magazine calendar and our website calendar. Both are wonderful resources to help fill your next workshop or event.

MAGAZINE CALENDAR - 10th of the month deadline

The magazine features two types of calendar listings:

  • EVENTS CALENDAR For one-time event listings. $25 per listing.
  • ONGOING CALENDAR For regular classes, meetings, etc., that occur on an ongoing basis. $25 per listing.

If you are a current magazine advertiser or distribution site, you may be entitled to Free Magazine Calendar Listings. Contact us to inquire.

Non-profit organizations are given free calendar listings for most events that are not major fund raisers.

Email all calendar submissions to nasouthjersey@gmail.com

Please send your listing in the proper calendar format to help us prepare the calendar in a timely manner each month. Here is an example of a completed Calendar entry, in the correct formatting:

Yoga and Meditation – 9-11am. All ages, all levels. Basic yoga positions, breathing and relaxation techniques in the Iyengar approach to yoga with Brynn. Meditation follows. $45. Magical Moments, 1256 Beachview Ln, Ste 2, Naples. 239-222-2222.

TO GET STARTED: Provide a specific date for a one time event (November 9, 2013) or day of week for recurring events (Mondays; 2nd Thursday each month) and then follow this order and these formatting guidelines for Calendar submissions:

  1. Title of Event (boldface ONLY the Title of Event in each listing). If an event has a long Title, only bold part of it. Do not use ALL CAPS.
  2. En – dash (MicroSoft Word will automatically create an En Dash between words when you type a word, hit the spacebar once, type a hyphen, then hit the space bar again, continue typing time or next word, then when next spacebar is struck Word automatically forms the En dash).
  3. Time No extra spaces. One period at the end of time. No periods in am or pm. (examples: 8-10am. 11am-2pm. 4-5pm.).
  4. Brief Description 20 to 40 words of ―just the facts. Keep descriptions short. Avoid excessive adjectives. Avoid ―you in copy. Reword copy that reads like an ad. (example (avoid this): You won’t want to miss this unique Holistic Nutrition Seminar, to be led by Ashtra Mullins.)
  5. Cost (example: $12. $125. $12.50.) When there are different costs (members, nonmembers, age groups), use a backslash. (example: $12/members, $15/nonmembers $12/adults, $9/ages 6-15, Free/under 6). DO not list price with zero cents. Ex correct: $12. Example incorrect: $12.00.
  6. Location Name, address with city, but not state—only include state if event occurs in a state other than your publication. Abbreviate without periods. (Example: Magical Moments, 1256 Beachview Ln, Ste 2, Naples.)
  7. Abbreviations: Avenue = Ave, Boulevard = Blvd, Circle = Cir, Lane = Ln, Parkway = Pkwy, Street = St, Highway = Hwy.
  8. Phone Number Include area code, without parentheses, and use hyphens, not periods, between numbers (example: 239-212-2112. NOT: (239) 212-2112 or 239.212.2112)
  9. Email capitalize start of words to make it easy to read. Remove hyperlinks. Ex: JaneDoe@YogaToday.com.
  10. Website Don’t include http and www; Same as above for capatilizing start of words. example: www.thebestyogastudio.com should be: TheBestYogaStudio.com.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES

  • Use single spaces after periods.
  • Don’t list private sessions that are happening all day long, such as massage, as an event. That should be a display ad.
  • Watch for and avoid words and phrases like: Come join us, we, I, etc. Remember, the Calendar text is news about an organization and an event; it is not a marketing message.
  • If an event runs for more than one day, spell out the month and event dates after the title and the en dash. Follow with the times for the appropriate days. (Example: Ananda Yoga Festival – Aug 1-2. 10am-4pm, Aug 1; 12-5pm, Aug 2.)
  • Please make sure your contact info is attached in case we have any questions.
  • Thank you for your cooperation in advance and for being part of the Natural Awakenings community!
